HH Paulose II to visit St. Thomas, Detroit


His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan will visit our church September 23rd, 2014. This will be his maiden visit to our church since he was elevated to the apostolic throne of St. Thomas. His Holiness will be accombny by our own diocesan metropolitan, His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius. We will have grand welcome event at our church on Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM followed by evening prayer and felicitation meeting.
We encourage each of you to adjust your work schedule so you can attend the event and receive the blessings from the Holy Father.

Obituary: Mrs. Thankamma Philip

Obituary: Mrs. Mariamma Chacko

It is with a sorrowful heart that I inform you of the passing of Mrs. Mariamma Chacko, the mother of our Member Mr. John Chacko.
She passed away at the age of 79 and is survived by 5 children. Mr. John Chacko, wife Mrs. Mary Chacko (Veena) and son Alex Chacko are currently in Kerala. There will be a memorial prayer held after Qurbana this Sunday, July 6.

2014 Perunnal & Convention

St. Thomas Orthodox Church of India, Detroit will hold its annual Feast of Our Patron Saint, St. Thomas, Church Perunnal and Convention on July 5th & 6th, 2014. We are blessed to have Rev. Fr. Dr. Joy Pyngolil, Diocesan Secretary of South-West America, as the keynote speaker and chief celebrant for this year’s Perunal and Convention. On Sunday July 6th, we will commemorate memorial prayer for His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Didymus I.
Our program will start on Saturday with Evening Prayer & Convention followed by Chendamelam & Fireworks.  On Sunday, we will have Holy Qurbana, memorial prayer, followed by Rasa & Luncheon. Following the luncheon, we will have a meeting to celebrate the anniversary of all spiritual organizations. In addition, we will recognize the High School graduates from Class of 2014 during the meeting.
We encourage all the faithful to attend with prayers to receive the blessings through the intercession of St. Thomas the Apostle.

His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Didymus I has entered into his eternal rest

His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Didymus I (93) has entered into his eternal rest. He entered his eternal rest at 7:30 PM (IST) at Mar Gregorios Parumala Hospital. His Holiness will be burried at that Pathanapuram Dyara on Wednesday at 11:00 AM IST.
Details of the funeral as follows:
Monday, May 26th:
– Mortal remains will be brought to Old Seminary by the night time.
Tuesday, May 27th:
– Following the morning prayer and Holy Qurbana, the body will be taken to Devalokam Aramana Chapel for public viewing.
– After the public viewing his body will be taken to Pathanapuram Dyara
Wednesday, May 28th:
– At 11:00 AM IST the final burial service will start.
Our church fondly remembers, the moment he spent with us during his apostolic visit in 2006. During the visit he blessed the corner stone of our still to be built church. Memorial services will be held at our Church on Wednesday during evening prayer and during Holy Qurbana on Sunday. May His memory be eternal and his prayers be a refuge for us all.

Obituary: Mr. C. V. John

It is with a sorrowful heart that we inform you of the passing of Mr. C. V. John, the father of our Member Mr. Abey C. John.  Mr. C. V. John was a Managing Committee Member of the Kollam Diocese and a University Register at Mahatma Gandhi University. He passed away of age related issues at the age of 70.  Mr. Abey John will be leaving for Kerala tomorrow and the funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
